Abstract

1,266,756. Hydrocarbon fuel. CITIES SERVICE OIL CO. 25 Nov., 1969 [26 Nov., 1968], No. 57542/69. Heading C5G. A fuel having reduced smoke and soot forming properties comprises a major proportion of a liquid hydrocarbon fuel, e.g. diesel fuel, a minor proportion of an ether and 0À007-0À1% by wt. (calc. as metal) of a Group IIa metal sulphonate. The ether may be a simple ether, a polyglycol ether or a cyclic ether but a C 3 -C 10 alkyl ether of an alkylene glycol is preferred in amount 0.05 -5% by wt. Sulphonates of Ca, Mg, Be, Sr and Ba are referred to but barium alkaryl sulphonates are preferred. Optional components are metal salts of mono esters of sulphuric acid formed from C 8 -C 18 aliphatic alcohols and metal salts of di(2-ethylhexyl)sulphosuccinic acid.
