Abstract

1,231,458. Phosphate base stock. STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO. 22 Aug., 1968 [6 Sept., 1967], No. 40171/68. Heading C5F. A base stock for a functional fluid composition comprises a homogeneous mixture of 50- 90% by wt. of at least one tri(C 3 -C 12 alkyl) phosphate and 10-50% by wt. of a mixture of tricresylphosphate and trixylenylphosphate. The functional fluid which may be used as an hydraulic fluid may contain polymethacrylate or polyacrylate VI improvers, an alkyl succinic acid, benzotriazole, quinizarin, and up to 5% by wt. water. The preferred trialkyl phosphate is tributylphosphate. The VI improvers may be dissolved in a solvent such as di-2-ethyl hexyl sebacate.
