Abstract

[Also in Division E1] A roofing panel comprises a surface panel member 10 to one side of which is adhered a reinforced moulded plastics layer 16, a supporting frame 18 located against and secured to the moulded facing and supporting elements 26 secured to the supporting frame. As shown the panel 10, which may be of a thermoplastic or thermosetting plastic may be roughened by solvent etching or coating with a resin adhesive containing fine sand, is coated with an amino resin binder containing resorcinol and glass or asbestos fibres to form the layer 16. The frame of aluminium L- and T-section members 20, 22 are secured to the panel with amino-resin impregnated glass fibre strips passed through the members 26 or by screwing into interposed wood fillets. The surface panel and frame may be covered with a layer of foamed polystyrene, polyurethane or urea-formaldehyde resin which is subsequently cured to bond the frame to the panel. Alternatively the applied foam and resin layers may all be cured simultaneously to effect bonding. A decorative colour granular layer may be applied to the outer face of panel 10.
