Abstract

[Also in Division B6] A rigid insulating covering for application to a non-planar surface is made by shaping one face of a resin-bonded inorganic fibre layer to fit the surface, the other face also being non- planar; preforming a plastics foil to the shape of the said other face; and bonding the layers, e.g. by gluing. The fibrous layer may be shaped by pressing and the foil may be deep-drawn to shape. The foil may be polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene or polypropylene and may be coloured or decorated in a flat or relief pattern; it may be lined with glass cloth or flocked with fibres at its exposed face. The fibrous layer may be a phenol-formaldehyde bonded glass fibre mat, and may be provided with an aluminium or metallized plastics foil at the face which contacts the surface to be covered. The covering may be secured by adhesive or by heat-sealable material to the surface.
