1329626 Embossed decorative laminate FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 23 Aug 1971 [29 Oct 1970] 39389/71 Heading B5N A decorative covered structure 10 comprises a backing material 12; a dielectrically bondable material 14 overlying a first portion of the backing material; a dielectrically non-bondable material 16 overlying a second portion of the backing material; a dielectrically embossable material 18 overlying both the non-bondable material and the bondable material; a first dielectrically embossed design 20 formed on the embossable material in areas overlying the bondable material whereby the embossable material, the bondable material and the backing material are all bonded together to form a thin laminated construction at the area of the bond; and a second dielectrically embossed design 22 formed on the embossable material in areas overlying the non-bondable material whereby the embossable material, the non-bondable material and the backing material are not bonded together so that they thereby form a raised construction thicker than the thin laminated construction in the area of the first design. In an alternative construction (Fig. 2), a dielectrically bondable material 32 overlies the backing material; the dielectrically non-bondable material overlies selected portions of the bondable material, a dielectrically embossable material overlies both the non-bondable material and the portions of the bondable material which the non-bondable material does not overlie and the second dielectrically embossed design is formed on the embossable material in areas overlying the non-bondable material whereby the embossable material, the non-bondable material, the bondable material and the backing material are not bonded together. The backing material may be a rigid fibre board or a woven fabric. The dielectrically bondable material may be a fibrous material impregnated with a thermoplastic material. The non-bondable material may be a polyurethane foam; alternatively, it may comprise a woven or knitted fabric not containing a thermoplastic impregnant and formed for example from glass fibres. The embossable material may be a thermoplastic film or a thermoplastic coated fabric. The two embossed designs may be formed simultaneously.
