Abstract

1,266,377. Attachments for moving trailers; rest bars. L. P. EDWARDS. 21 Dec., 1970 [24 Sept., 1969], No. 46922/69. Headings B7D, B7H and B7J. An attachment for moving a trailer, and adapted to be clamped at 6 to the end of the trailer draw bar 5, comprises a screw jack 1 operable by a handle 4 and having at its lower end a bearing 10 engageable in a socket 9 of a frame 8 mounting a wheel 7, the frame being steerable by a handle 13 about the bearing 10. The frame 8 with the wheel 7 may be replaced by a foot to support the drawbar when it is not required to move the trailer. In a modification the wheel 7 is replaced by a two-wheeled axle and in a further modification the jack is mounted on the axle between the wheels with the piston engageable with a socket clamped to the drawbar. In the latter case the jack is of the hydraulic type, and the wheels may be driven by an electric motor mounted on the frame and energized by a battery mounted on the trailer. In the embodiment of Fig. 5 an I.C. engine is mounted on the frame and drives the axle by means of worm and pinion gearing 57, 58. The jack 62 is raised by operating a handle 64.
