Abstract

1,136,248. Vehicle movers. AUSTRALIAN RAILWAY EQUIPMENT SUPPLY CO. PTY. Ltd., and TRAK-CHIEF MFG. PTY. Ltd. 22 Dec., 1965, No. 54253/65. Headings B7H and B7J. A railway shunting vehicle has pneumatic tyred steerable rear wheels 12 and front traction wheels 14 mounted on a chassis 11 and guide wheels 54 and 51. A coupling block 30 is pivoted upon arms 23, 24 and may be lifted by an hydraulic ram. A coupling member 34 which co-operates with a complementary coupling device on the truck to be shifted is attached to the block 30 and when the vehicles are connected together, a lifting force is applied to the block 30 so as to transfer some of the truck weight to the wheels 14. The arms 23, 24 are mounted in a pedestal member 18 which has about 10 degrees of rotational movement and in which is also mounted the steering wheel 17. The pivot of the upper arms allows slight longitudinal movement. The guide wheels 51 and 54 may be raised and lowered by a ram 52. The vehicle may have a life off the rails, and a lift and turn-table 60, 64 operated by a ram 62 and hydraulic motor 65 is provided to position the vehicle upon the rails when required, the guide wheels 51 and 54 being first lowered on to the rails to position the main wheels.
