Abstract

126,576. Roberts, T. J. E., and Belgrove, H. G. Nov. 15, 1918. Addition to 124,002. Winding and paying-out apparatus on portable engines; laying ropes on or off during winding and unwinding.-Relates to the friction pulleys applied to the laying of the cable passing over the variable capstan described in the parent Specification for use on self-propelled ploughs and other agricultural machines. The lower pulley S of each pair is caused to bear against the upper pulley R to grip the cable U passing around the capstan by the mechanism shown controlled by the foot-lever X or by a hand-lever. In Fig. 1, the pulley S is shown mounted on a pivoted arm S<2> and falls away from the pulley R by its own weight but is forced against the pulley R by a cord W fixed to one arm of the foot-lever X. In Fig. 2, the pulley S is shown normally forced against the pulley R by the action of the spring V<1> and is withdrawn from the pulley R, thus releasing its grip on the cable U, by a cord W attached to the foot-lever X.
