Abstract

3842. Rutter, G. March 10. Spring and weight actuated lowering-apparatus; supporting load and distributing load or stress uniformly.-Theatrical scenery or heavy weights are suspended by springs or spring rollers in such a way that raising or lowering is facilitated. The scene batten 1 is attached by hooks to a batten 3, which is suspended by ropes 5 wound on spring rollers 6 mounted on an overhead platform. The cords 10 for raising or lowering the scene are attached to the batten 3 and carried over pulleys 12, 13 and attached to a spring roller 14, which oooperates with the rollers 6 to balance the weight. The roller 14 may be dispensed with, and the cords 10 secured to cleats 15. A weight may be supported from one spring roller, and the operating-rod 10 is then wound in opposite directions upon the other end of the roller and hangs in a loop.
