Abstract
1,262,682. Stirring molten metals. RHEINSTAHL HUTTENWERKE A.G. 21 March, 1969 [23 March, 1968], No. 15092/69. Heading B1C. [Also in Division C1] A metallurgical vessel has a stirrer comprising an imperforate beam-like member 5 of reinforced refractory composition mounted on a downwardly extending two-part shaft 3, 4 rotated through gearing 2 by a motor 1. The lower part 3 of the shaft has a refractory covering and forms with the stirrer a replaceable constructional unit. The stirrer may have internal cooling channels supplied with air through a pipe 13 which passes through the shaft. As shown the stirrer is vertically adjustable and is supported by the cover 9 of a ladle 10; the cover has a supply funnel 15.
