Abstract

1,260,961. Coating. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DES COUSSINETS. 7 Jan., 1969 [9 Jan., 1968; 2 Feh., 1968], No. 1046/69. Headings B2E and B2L. A cylindrical metal part is lined by depositing hardenable plastics inside the part, arranging the part as shown in Fig. 1 in an arbor 1 of a heated centrifuge and subjecting the part to centrifugal action so that the lining material spreads as a paste or liquid lining over the inner surface of the part and then maintaining the metal part in rotation while the extremity of a wire element 5 is contacted with the lining, the wire extending at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the metal part and reciprocating the wire along this axis as the metal part rotates to cause bubbles. imprisoned in the lining to burst and to simultaneously homogenise the lining and then hardening the lining. The immersion of the wire and the reciprocating speed are adjustable. The metal part may be a ring, tube, or rolled strip or sheet made of steel, aluminium, copper. The metal part can be initially de-greased, pickled and the internal surface coated with a primer or adhesive. The coating material may be thermosetting polymers applied in the liquid state, phenolic, epoxy, polyester, acrylic and mathacrylic resins and/or urethanes applied as powder or granules, thermoplastic polymers applied as powder, granules or films, e.g. polyamides, polyethylene glycol terephthalate, phenoxy resins, or polycarbonates, or thermosetting mastics, cements with or without a solvent, or varnishes. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the metal part is heated externally through the arbor and internally by hot air. A barrier of hot gases is also established in front of the metal part by means of a deflector or by equipping the arbor with a combustion chamber.
