Abstract

1,260,627. Electromagnetic actuators. C. BURKERT. 2 Oct., 1970 [4 Oct., 1969], No. 46943/70. Addition to 1,121,747. Heading H1P. An electromagnet according to the Main Patent is improved by arranging the widths of the armature laminations so that longitudinal grooves are formed to allow liquid to pass between the ends of the armature. This reduces the damping effect of the liquid. As shown, Fig. 2, the armature comprises a stack of laminations 1 having outer members 2 which are narrower than is required to fill the housing tube 6 so that grooves 5 are formed. The faces 2<SP>1</SP> of the outer laminµ are flat, thus providing further channels 8. The widths of all the laminae may be selected so that longitudinal grooves are provided along the whole circumference of the armature. The laminations are held together by rivets (3, Fig. 1, not shown) which are insulated by an oxide layer, a coat of lacquer or an insulating tube. The laminations may alternatively or in addition be secured by adhesives or casting resins which also prevent eddy currents.
