[Also in Division H1] A moving core transducer, Fig. 1, comprises two axially adjacent pot cores 14, 18 with closure plates 26, 28, and an axially movable core or cores 30 of a considerably higher permeability than the pot-cores arranged in an axial hole 29 extending through the assembly to vary oppositely the inductances of coils 10, 12 wound in the pot cores, an airgap being left between each closure plate 26, 28 and the corresponding centre limb 22 of each pot core. The high permeability core 30 effectively constitutes a low reluctance shunt path for the magnetic flux passing along the centre limb 22 to the cover-plate Fig. 2 (not shown). An airgap may be provided also between the coverplates and the outer walls of the pot cores, and in a further embodiment Fig. 4 (not shown) the two pot cores are arranged oppositely to the arrangement of Fig. 1, with separate axial cores (60, 62) joined by a rod (64).
