Abstract

983,481. Inductors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Feb. 3, 1964 [Feb. 27, 1963 (3)], No. 4421/64. Heading H1T. An E.H.T. shunt reactor, having no magnetic core inside its winding(s), has at least one winding 4, 5 (Fig. 1) or 1, I<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 6) (or at least one winding per phase) with a yoke member 2 or yoke members 13, 14 extending across the end faces of the winding(s) and laminated edgewise to the winding faces. Instead of the top yoke and winding ends being connected to the E.H.T. line with the top yoke acting as an electrostatic screen as shown in Fig 6, the E.H.T. line may be connected to the midpoints of the coils and the yokes earthed (Fig. 4, not shown). In this latter arrangement or in a, similarly connected arrangement having a single winding column a conductive electrostatic shield member 8 slit, or of strip form, may separate the coils at the mid-point connection. The yoke members 13, 14 are held apart against magnetic forces by a column(s) of non-magnetic or para-magnetic material 3 which may be formed from concentric glass or porcelain cylinders or may be conductive. The yoke members may be clamped by insulating the straps 17 and the whole may be mounted on a resilient support 16 to cut down core vibration. Magnetic forces on the outer laminations may be transmitted to columns 3 via welded-on beams 9. Alternatively a supplementary C- shaped magnetic member may be used. Corona preventing shields may be provided.
