After the cap has been released, the pressure in the freezedrying chamber is raised at least to atmospheric pressure to press the cap on the bottle, and the bottle is transferred to a second chamber where the cap is crimped on by spin sealing under a welt on the container neck. The cap 4 comprises an outer member 1 of aluminium, a magnetic insert 2 of tinplate, and a rubber or plastics sealing disc 3. The cap 4 is initially applied to the bottle 5 by an automatic machine.
