Abstract
1,258,290. Protective coatings. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 28 Aug., 1969 [7 Oct., 1968], No. 42800/69. Addition to 1,210,776. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C7] In a process for coating a substrate with aluminium by decomposing an aluminium hydride in the presence of a catalyst and heating the substrate by contacting with a hot bath of inert liquid as described in Parent Specification, the bath contains an overcoating material dissolved therein. This material may be polyethylene, polypropylene, p.t.f.e. polyvinylidenefluoride, hexafluoroacetone, polyformaldehyde, polyparaxylene, polyethers, e.g. polyethylene oxide and polypropylene oxide, and copolymers of epoxide materials. The substrate may be a film, web, whisker, bead, powder, reflector or a pipe, and may consist of Fe, Cu, brass, Mg, Al, cloth, paper, glass, ceramic, polyester, carbon, graphite or wood.
