Abstract

Glass fibres coated with thermoplastic material are produced by passing the fibres through molten thermoplastic material before they are exposed to the atmosphere, while the molten thermoplastic material is held in a closed vessel covered by an atmosphere of an inert gas in order to prevent the oxidation of the thermoplastic material. The process provides glass fibres with a firmly bonded coating of thermoplastic material without the use of coupling agents.
