Abstract

1,256,231. Removing dust generated in industrial processes. NEWTON COLLINS Ltd. 25 July, 1969 [30 July, 1968], No. 36229/68. Heading F4X. A dust extractor for use in foundry settling shops has a hood 23 attached to the lower end of a vertical duct which in turn is connected via flexible tubing 31, 34 and main trunking 33 to a source of negative pressure. The vertical duct depends from a horizontal boom 10 provided with horizontal roller trackways 15 to allow the duct to be moved radially therealong. The boom 10 is pivoted about a vertical axis on hinges 13 mounted on a support pillar 14. The vertical duct comprises telescopic sections 18, 19. This construction allows the height of the hood 23 to be varied as required via a counterbalancing system comprising an annular weight 20 surrounding the duct section 18 and connected to the section 19 by means of cables 21 passed over pulleys 22. The hood 23 which is rotatably connected to the end of the section 19 at 25 has an opening 28 the effective size of which can be adjusted by means of a sliding closure plate 29. Several dust extractors may be connected to the main trunking which leads to a conventional suction and air filtering plant.
