Abstract
864,787. Guided skip hoists; skips. CRESCENZI, G. Feb. 16, 1959 [Feb. 17, 1958], No. 5373/59. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (4). [Also in Group XII] A skip 10, Fig. 3, of a furnace charging device, is moved vertically by an hydraulic jack 13 formed of telescopic rods between a lower filling position and an upper, charging position. Wheels 11, 12 on the skip engage guide -rails 9 on uprights 8 which have upper inclined sections 9a terminating in abutment plates 9 c for the upper wheels 11, and curved extensions 18 extending remotely from the furnace to receive the lower wheels 12 so that the container is forwardly inclined when the wheels engage the section 9a and on further lifting by the jack 13 the skip is further tilted by the lower wheels 12 entering the extension 18 and rotation of the skip about a shaft 25 of the wheels 11. The skip has a guard 19 having an open top and an extension 10a which acts as a shoot, a front lid 20, Fig. 1, and a hood 21 which has an opening at one side for the guard 19 and arms 21a pivoted at 22 on the uprights 8. The head 21 is automatically moved into the charging position above the furnace opening by the movement of the container 10 by cables 23 anchored to straps 24 fixed to the shaft 25, the cables travelling downwardly about pulleys 23a.
