Abstract

1,130,681. Shielded enclosures. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 21 July, 1967 [4 Aug., 1966], No. 33720/67. Heading B4Q. An arrangement for lifting a furnace muffle 3 through an opening 2 in the roof 1 of a shielded enclosure comprises positioning a thick base 12 on the roof so that an opening 6 in the base is aligned with the opening 2. The opening 6 may be closed by a horizontally-sliding door 5 operated by a hand wheel 18 and screwed rod 16. A flask 7 having a base 28 is positioned on the base 12 in alignment with the opening 6, this flask being closable by a horizontallysliding door 8 mounted in the base 28 and operated by a hand wheel 19 and screwed rod 17. The mechanism 17, 19 is carried by an extension 15 of the base 28 and when the flask is in position the other end of the rod 17 is connected to the door 8. The muffle 3 is raised by a winch and cable mechanism 35, 36, 37.
