Abstract
1337069 Shielded enclosures GESELLSCHAFT FLIER KERNFORSCHUNG mbH 23 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 60102/71 Heading B4Q The screening wall 1 of a hot cell 2 has an opening 3 through which a manipulator 5 extends, a cover 6 of the manipulator being secured to a tube 7 which is in turn secured in a flange 9 by bolts 10. In front of the cover 6 there is a bellows 14 made of a transparent material and including a pocket 16 containing a "double cover" system 17 comprising two parts 18, 19 interconnected by a screw coupling 20. At its end facing the cover 6, the bellows 14 has a cover 21 secured to a flange 22 by bolts 23. In order to remove the manipulator 5, the covers 6, 21 are coupled by means of screws 24 and the bolts 10, 23 are then released. Thereafter the length of the bellows 14 is increased (by hand or mechanically) and the "double cover" system formed by the covers 6, 21 completely withdrawn into the interior of the bellows together with the manipulator 5. Subsequently, the "double cover" system 17 in the pocket 16 is moved by hand to the opening 3 and inserted such that one part 18 fits into the flange 9 and the other part 19 fits into the flange 22, the parts being secured by the bolts 10, 23. The screw coupling 20 between the parts 18, 19 is then released and the two flanges 9, 22 are separated. Devices may be located within the bellows 14 which are actuated from the outside, by means of which the "double cover" system 17 or the manipulator 5 can be moved. It is possible to replace the bellows 14 by a telescopically extensible tube. When using a metal tube (e.g. on account of the gamma rays emanating from the opening 3), protected openings with lead glass windows may be provided for observation purposes.
