1296823 Apparatus for supporting workmen STEPHENS & CARTER Ltd 17 Oct 1969 [17 Oct 1968] 49289/68 Heading B8H Apparatus for supporting workmen within holds of ships or within tanks comprises a horizontal boom assembly which is telescopic or movable horizontally and which is mounted for rotation about a vertical axis in bearings 25 adapted to be mounted in an aperture 26 in the top of the hold or tank. As shown, the boom assembly comprises an outer section 17 which is provided with a cable 20 for supporting a bosun's chair or work-cage and which is slidable in an inner section 15, having an upright portion connected to the bearings 25 and provided with guide rollers 18, 19, 24. The boom section 17 is extended and retracted by means of a cable 21 extending from the workmen support and passing around a pulley 22, rotation of which causes rotation of the guide roller 19. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), a single section boom is slidably supported by a. vertical member extending down from, and supported by, the bearings 25. The vertical member is adjustable vertically in the bearings 25.
