A post for supporting clothes lines has a solid part 2 and an upper hollow part 1 provided with a slit 5 and internal guides 6 for pulleys 7, a third pulley 8 being fixed at the top of the guide inside the post and a halliard 10 arranged over pulley 8 and reeved about a winch 4 so that the pulleys 7 which are attached to the halliard 10 can be moved up and down the post. Each pulley 7 has attached to it a swivel eye or hook 15 which extends through the slit 5 and supports a clothes line 16.
