Abstract
1,255,802. Controlling the agglomeration of ores for sintering. CENTRE NATIONAL DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES. 28 Nov., 1968 [1 Dec., 1967; 13 Nov., 1968], No. 11471/71. Divided out of 1,255,801. Heading C1A. The production of agglomerates for sintering is controlled by mixing ferromagnetic mineral materials, water, fuel and return fines and measuring a magnetic property of the sintered material, comparing this with a predetermined value corresponding to the desired properties, and where a difference occurs, adjusting -the fuel input' accordingly. A " magnetic index" may be measured corresponding to the electromagnetic characteristic of a circuit including a coil with a core formed by continuously taken sample of sintered material, taken preferably from the output of the sintering stage. The sample may consist entirely of return fines. The control of the fuel content may be automatic. The sample may also be taken from the end of an auxiliary sintering process operating under corresponding -conditions to the main sintering apparatus. In Fig. 1, for example, ore from 1, return fines from 2, ore from 3 and water from 6 are mixed at 5. The mixture passes to main sintering strand 10 and after two screenings the magnetic properties of the fines are measured at 25. In this Figure an auxiliary sintering apparatus is not shown. Specification 1,255,801 discloses the use of magnetic measurement in addition to gas permeability measurement to control the process.
