Abstract

Controlling sintering of minerals, partic ferrous minerals, by taking a sample of the hot screened fines at the end of the sinter belt, dividing the sample into a fine i.e. 0.25 mm and a coarse i.e. >2.5 mm fraction, detecting the presence of unfired materials in the fine fraction, and measuring the magnetic index representive of the quality of the sinter in the coarse fraction. The process avoids the inaccurate magnetic index readings obtd. when unfired materials are present in the fine fraction.
