Abstract

1,255,750. Silver halide stabilizing compositions. EASTMAN KODAK CO. May 8, 1969 [May 8, 1968], No.23552/69. Heading G2C. A developed photographic silver image stabilizing composition comprises a silver halide complexing agent and adipic acid or succinic acid. The composition may also contain an adipic acidadipate or succinic acid-succinate buffer, a minor amount of sulphite, toning agents such as mercapto azoles or an inorganic sequestering agent. The silver halide complexing agent is preferably ammonium thiocyanate or an alkali metal thiocyanate. The composition preferably comprises an aqueous solution. The stabilizing composition may be used in rapid access processing where the developing agent is in the material and the exposed material is treated with a development activator until the desired image is developed and thereafter contacted with a stabilizing composition. The stabilizing compositions are of high buffer capacity, free from odour, stable, of reasonable cost and do not contribute objectionably to final print tackiness.
