Abstract

[Also in Division Fl] An adjustable tappet 3 comprises an adjusting cylinder 8 located in diametrically extending bore 7, the cylinder 8 having three flats 10, 11, 12, located at different radial distances from its axis, and a semicircular cross-section 13. The cylinder 8 is rotatable so that a selected flat 10, 11 or 12 engages the top of a valve stem 4, the cylinder being retained in the selected position by a circlip 16 located in a circumferential groove in the tappet 3 and engaging appropriate end grooves in the cylinder 8. In a modification, Figs. 2A, 2E, a bar pallet comprises a circular end portion 87, a flat portion 89, against which the end of a valve stem 4 is adapted to bear, a retaining portion 90 and a flat portion 92. A slot 94 in the end of the pallet enables it to be turned about its longitudinal axis to facilitate assembly.
