Abstract

1,150,111. Cam followers. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. 22 June, 1966 [28 June, 1965], No. 27838/66. Heading F2K. A partly tubular cylindrical tappet 24 for a diesel engine fuel injector is prevented from rotating in a guide bore 14, as it is reciprocated by a cam 22, by a pin 36 projecting into the bore 14 to engage, through a clearance slot 42 in the tappet wall, a longitudinal guide slot 40 in a split spring sleeve 28 which frictionally grips the inner surface of the tappet wall. The slot 40 is diametrically opposite the split in the sleeve 28, the sides 56 of which are spaced apart slightly when the sleeve is compressed into the tappet. A push-rod (not shown) engages a socket 44 in the base of the tubular portion of the tappet. A fork 46 on the tappet carries a roller 50 which engages the cam 22. Oil is fed from the socket 44 via a bore 52 to lubricate the outside of roller 50 and via a passage 54 to lubricate the roller and axle bearing surfaces.
