Abstract
1,254,423. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. NEPTUNE MEASUREMENT Ltd. Feb. 14, 1969 [Nov. 16, 1967], No. 52172/67. Heading G3P. In a fluid-flow control system, for liquids such as whisky and oil, where a meter failure may cause loss of revenue a pneumatic timing device 16, 18 provides an output signal for an actuator 32 to stop the flow when the frequency of signals corresponding to the flow-rate falls below a predetermined value. The signals are generated by a valve 10 reciprocated by a cam on the first index wheel of a mechanical meter and are applied alternately to two timing valves 16, 18 which permit the signal to pass to an output line 29 only when the signal has been applied for more than an adjustable pre-set time to the valves. The actuator 32 closes a valve 34 to stop the flow when it receives a signal through a spring return valve 30 from the line 29. To start the flow, a reset button 36 supplies air through a valve 38 to the valve 30, which connects the signal output line 29 to exhaust 42, and to an actuator 44 for the valve 34. Air is also supplied through a timing valve 46 to an actuator 48 of the valve 38 which connects the valve 30 to exhaust if the operator attempts to hold the valve 34 open by holding down the reset button 36 when a signal is present in the line 29. To reset the valve 38 and reconnect the button 36 with the system, a further button 52, operable by a key or located in a position accessible only to authorized personnel, is depressed. The buttons 36 and 52, the timing valve 46 and the valve 38 may be replaced by a spring return push button valve 20 which resets the system by connecting the line 29 to exhaust and the actuator 44 to the air supply. A further embodiment prevents any flow which might be obtained by successive operation of the button 36 which also supplies air to a further timing valve. This closes after a longer interval than the valve 46 and resets the latter and the button 36 if no signal is present in the line 29. If a signal is present, the further timing valve is disconnected before it has had time to operate and the system has to be reset by the push button 52.
