1,254,052. Production of dialkyl esters of hydrazodicarboxylic acid. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 20 March, 1969 [21 March, 1968], No. 14683/69. Heading C2C. The production of a dialkyl ester of hydrazocarboxylic acid by reacting an alkyl chloroformate with hydrazine hydrate in an inert organic solvent at from -10‹ to +20‹ C. is carried out by maintaining an excess of Hydrazine hydrate throughout the reaction, recovering the unreacted hydrazine hydrate and the solvent by heating (preferably at above 70‹ C.) the reaction mixture to form two liquid phases, separating the two liquid phases thus formed, adding an alkali (which is able to liberate hydrazine as hydrazine hydrate from hydrazinium hydrochloride) to the lower phase, processing the upper phase containing the dialkyl ester of hydrazodicarboxylic acid and the organic solvent and processing the lower phase containing the unreacted hydrazine hydrate.
