Abstract
1341939 Separating liquid reaction mixtures ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 21 Aug 1972 [21 Aug 1971 6 Sept 1971] 38806/72 Heading C2C A liquid reaction mixture derived from the production of aryl esters of aliphatic carboxylic acids formed by reacting an aromatic hydrocarbon with an aliphatic carboxylic acid and oxygen in the presence of nitric acid and a palladium catalyst is separated by (a) distilling the reaction mixture to separate unreacted starting materials and esters; (b) extracting the distillation residue with a liquid paraffinic hydrocarbon containing from 6 to 8 carbon atoms or a liquid cycloalkane or alkyl substituted cycloalkane containing a total of from 5 to 7 carbon atoms to extract the reaction product and leave the catalyst together with nitric acid as a residue process. Examples described include the separation of reaction mixtures formed in the production of phenyl acetate, tolyl acetate.
