A compound of the formula wherein R represents an organic radical, R 1 and R 2 each represent hydrogen, alkyl or alkenyl and n stands from 0 to 5, is prepared by reacting an organic sulphonic acid of the formula RSO 3 H in which R has the meaning above, with a lactam of the formula wherein R 1 , R 2 and n have the meanings given above, is an anhydrous inert solvent, in a melt or in water. The reactants being in a molar proportion of 2: 1 to 1: 2.
