Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0833908/IV (b)/1> where R1 is a secondary or tertiary alkyl radical or a cycloalkyl radical containing not more than 6 carbon atoms in the nucleus and which may contain an alkyl substituent having up to 3 carbon atoms, and R2 represents an alicyclic hydrocarbon or saturated acyclic hydrocarbon radical, containing not more than 6 carbon atoms or an aralkyl radical, and salts thereof. The compounds may be prepared by condensing the appropriate acid or salt thereof or reactive derivative thereof with the appropriate substituted hydrazine, or by introducing the appropriate substituent into the hydrazide of the appropriate acid or by heating the appropriate substituted hydrazine salt of the appropriate acid to a high temperature, and if desired converting the product into a salt thereof. N,N1-disubstituted carbodi-imides may be used as condensing agents, and one particular aspect of the invention uses such in the condensation of <FORM:0833908/IV (b)/2> with R2-NH-NH2, the condensation product so formed being converted if desired into a salt. Suitable reactive functional derivatives of the acid are esters, halides, amides and anhydrides, and when these are used in the condensation process the above mentioned condensing agent is not necessary. Substituents may be introduced into the hydrazide used as starting material, by reaction with the appropriate carbonyl compound and either reduction of the resulting hydrazone or reaction of same with the appropriate Grignard compound followed by hydrolysis.
