Abstract

1,253,522. Casting machines. BUHLER A.G. GEB. 1 Nov., 1968 [8 Nov., 1967], No. 51834/68. Heading B3F. [Also in Divisions F1, G1 and G3] A pressure casting machine has an injection sleeve 11, a melting or holding crucible 2, a piston pump 4 for conveying the melt 3 from the crucible to the injection sleeve and having a feed aperture 8 leading into the pump chamber below the operating level of the melt, and means for maintaining a constant level of melt in the crucible. Said means comprises a displacement device which may be an immersion element 17, Fig. 1, lowerable into the melt by means of an hydraulically operated piston 19, or an insert element 91, Fig. 2, having an open ended chamber 94 into which a pressure medium, i.e. gas or liquid, may be admitted to lower the level of the melt within the chamber 94. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the open end of the insert element 91 is constricted and the chamber is provided with a piston constructed as a float. Operation of the displacement device is initiated by level sensing devices which may be in the form of electrodes 33, 95, 96, 97, a pressure follow-up valve (184), Fig. 5 (not shown), or an open ended tube (154), Fig. 4 (not shown), containing gas, and is automatically controlled either electrically, Figs. 1 and 2, or pneumatically, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown).
