Abstract

1,252,699. Roller blinds. GRIESSER. Dec. 30, 1969 [Dec. 30, 1968], No.63267/69. Heading A4B. In a roller blind assembly control of the passage of light or air is effected by relative lateral displacement of a pair of superposed screens with alternate, vertical opaque and transparent or apertured portions or by rotation of a set of opaque vertical blades. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, one screen 1 is fixedly secured, at 4, to the winding drum 3 and the other screen 2 is supported by suspension means 5-9 with a part 7 slidably engaged in a longitudinal slot in the drum 3 for manual displacement. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, two transluscent or apertured screens 1, 2 are inter-connected by opaque blades 13 which rotate on relative lateral displacement of the screens 1, 2. Each screen may comprise a sheet of vertical blades (91, 92) Fig. 5 (not shown. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6, the movable screen 16 is suspended from flexible members 21, 22 wound oppositely around the winding drum 17 and secured at laterally spaced positions 24, 25 by a strip 23. Small rotations of the drum 17 shorten or lengthen the members 21, 22 according to the winding direction so that the screen 16 moves laterally. In a further embodiment, Fig. 8, one screen (27) is suspended from rings 30 with shoes 31 rotatable on a sleeve 32 rigid with the winding drum, circular grooves 33 receiving the shoes 31. The other screen (28) is rigidly attached to rings 36 with shoes 37 engaged in a helical groove 38 in the sleeve 32 whereby rotation of the drum causes lateral displacement of the rings 36 and screen (28). In a further embodiment, Fig. 10, the movable screen (43) is carried by a nut 45 slidably but non-rotatably mounted within the drum 41 on a rotary screw rod 47. In a further embodiment, Figs. 12, 13 (not shown) the drum (52) carries the movable screen and the other screen is secured against lateral displacement. The drum (52) carries a nut (59) which engages a rotary screw rod (60) so that the drum (52) is itself axially displaceable. In a further embodiment Figs. 14 and 15 (not shown) both screens are displaceable in opposite directions and are carried by rings 74, 78 threadedly engaged on respectively oppositely threaded ends of a screw rod (79). In a further embodiment, Fig. 16, the movable screen is suspended from the drum 85 by flexible members 88 and carries a rigid strip 87 with a protruding end that engages a ramp 89 which laterally displaces the screen when the screen is raised or lowered.
