1,251,896. Bobbin hangers. NANIWA KIKAI KOGYO K.K. 29 Jan., 1969 [2 Feb., 1968], No. 502269. Heading D1J. The bobbin hanger shown in Fig. 3 carries a bobbin 62. When the bobbin 61 is empty it is raised manually to lift a slider 60 and therewith a rod 42 carrying a lower toothed clutch 32. The clutch 32 is free to rotate about the axis of the rod 42. The crests of the teeth of the lower clutch 32 are initially in substantial alignment with the crests of the teeth on an upper fixed clutch 28, Fig. 1. The bobbin 62 is raised until the teeth on the lower clutch 32 mesh fully with the teeth of the upper clutch 28, this meshing action causing the lower clutch 32 to rotate through half a tooth pitch. The clutch 32 carries toothed tails 33 that are lifted upwardly with the clutch 32 and rotate therewith to position the toothed tails 33 above circumferentially spaced teeth 36 within the bore 35 of the body 26. The upward movement of the slider 60 also causes bobbin supporting wings 47, 48 on the rod 42 to be retracted into the bobbin hanger. When the bobbin is lowered the rod 42 and lower clutch 32 descend until the toothed tails 33 engage and mesh with the circumferentially spaced teeth 36 in the bore 35, such meshing causing a further rotation of the clutch 32 through half a tooth pitch. The descent of the rod 42 is not sufficient, due to engagement of the tails 33 with the teeth 36, to permit the wings 47, 48 to project out of the bobbin holder. With the wings 47, 48 maintained in their retracted state the empty bobbin 62 can now be lowered off the holder. When a fresh bobbin is pushed upwardly onto the holder it causes the slider 60, and therewith the clutch 32, to rise and lift the tails 33 out of engagement with the teeth 36. Continued upward movement of the fresh bobbin causes eventual meshing of the teeth of the clutches 28, 32 and therewith a further rotation of the clutch 32 through half a tooth pitch. This causes the tails 33 to be moved out of alignment with the teeth 36 so that when the fresh bobbin is lowered the tails 33 can move down between the teeth 36 and the rod 42 can descend to a setting in which the wings 47, 48 move out of the holder to their bobbin supporting position.
