Abstract

1,131,048. Screw jacks. TRACTEL S.A. 10 Nov., 1965 [12 Nov., 1964], No. 47635/65. Heading B8J. A jack, Fig. 3, comprises a hollow screw 5 with opposite hand threads on its inner and outer sides, threaded into a case 1 and receiving a threaded spindle 19 with a removable bearing head 20 mounted thereon by a locking pin 26 engaging a slot 19, in the extremity of the spindle 19. The jack is operated by a ratchet 9 attached to the screw 5. The head 20 has jaws 23, 24 and hooks 25, Fig. 4. The case 1 similarly has jaws 2, 3 and hooks (4) (not shown). As shown in the embodiment in Fig. 5, which has a long spindle 19, the head 20 may be mounted on the bottom of the spindle 19 with its barrel 21 within the base of the case 1. Alternatively the head 20 may be inverted with respect to this position on the bottom of the spindle 19, the locking pin 26 being inserted through a hole 27 in the head 20, Fig. 7. The various positions of the head 20 on the spindle 19 in conjunction with various combinations of the hooks and jaws on the case 1 and head 20 allow the jack to be used for lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and gripping as further illustrated in Figs. 6, 8, 9 (not shown).
