885,697. Partitioning support jacks. CODE DESIGNS Ltd., and BUILDERS SUPPLY CO. (HAYES) Ltd. Feb. 12, 1960 [Jan. 19, 1959], No. 1865/59. Class 20(4) A thrust jack for securing partitions between opposed surfaces comprises a tubular part 1 engaged in a hole in the partitioning pillar 7 and a screwed piston part 3 slidable within the tubular part and engageable with one of the opposed surfaces, and a nut 6 on the piston part, the jack being longitudinally extensible by turning the nut so as to bear against the outer end of the tubular part, and means including one or more prongs or teeth on the piston part and/or on the tubular part engageable with the said one opposed surface and/or the pillar 7 to ensure that, at least when the jack is under load, the nut 6 may be turned without turning the piston part 3. In Fig. 1 the prongs or teeth are provided on a flange 2 on the tubular part and on a pressure plate 4 carried by the piston part 3. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) a piston part of square cross-section engages a correspondingly shaped tubular part having a flange with prongs or teeth engaging the pillar.
