Abstract
125,156. Ruston, J. S., and Chorlton, A. E. L. June 19, 1916. Regulating; valves.-To prevent contamination of the pump charges with lubricating-oil in the crank casing of an engine working with supercompression, the additional charges are drawn into and compressed in a cooled reservoir G without entering the crank casing. The chamber opens into the crank casing through a pipe H' and into the piston-controlled admission port A<1> of the cylinder through a rotary or oscillating valve K which may be adjusted to vary the quantity of charge admitted to the cylinder. A modification is described in which two inclined cylinders are charged from a common reservoir, one valve controlling the admission to and delivery of the charges from the reservoir. Air, combustible mixture, or combustion products may comprise the super-charge.
