Abstract

Mountings for use on aircraft.-Consists in balancing the training-moment due to air pressure by means of a spring-controlled c r a n k moving synchronously with the gun. In the form shown in plan in Fig. 2, a ring A<1> carrying the gun is connected by a rope B<1> with a wheel B geared by a pinion b to a toothed wheel c carrying a crank-pin C. A rubber spring D connected at one end to the fuselage passes round the crank-pin and exerts a moment on the ring A<1> which varies from zero in the position shown, to a maximum when the pin has moved through approximately 90 degrees, which corresponds to a training movement of the gun from the position when it is pointing directly ahead to a position at right-angles to the direction of flight. For the purpose of bringing the pin C into step with the gun and also for tightening the rope B<1>, the frame C<1> carrying the spring and gear-wheels is slidably mounted on the bars c' of the fuselage, and can be adjusted by screws C<2>. In a modification, the spring D is arranged at right-angles to the position shown, so as to exert a force tending to tighten the cord B<1>, the frame C<1> being, in this case, hinged to one of the bare c' and slidable on the other.
