Abstract
577,786. Gun mountings. REID & SIGRIST, Ltd., and BOWER, C. June 10, 1938, No. 17295. [Class 92 (i)] [Also in Group XXV] A gun mounting particularly for use on aircraft is in the form of a pillar 15 to which the gun 16 is universally pivoted at one end the other end being connected with the fuselage or other gun support by a ball 30 engaging a socket 31 rotatably supported in a fixture 35 the socket having a slot 33 with which a neck 34 co-operates to constrain the pillar to swing in a plane which can be turned about the axis of the socket. The parts are locked in position by a spring-pressed friction grip 41 which is operated by an eccentric 38 on a bolt 37 rotated by a handle 40. The pillar, which is preferably telescopic, supports the gun at the centre of a cross-bar 17 extending across the cockpit of an aircraft as shown in Fig. 3, the arrangement permitting the pillar to be lowered for housing the gun in the fairing 10 or the pillar may be slewed to the positions indicated in broken lines for firing over the sides of the cockpit.
