Abstract

1,250,110. Spanners. H. HART. 24 June, 1970 [10 July, 1969], No. 34790/69. Heading B3N. [Also in Division F2] A threaded fastening means which prevents unauthorized removal of e.g. a vehicle wheel, comprises a body portion 1 having an internally threaded axial bore and a smooth frusto-conical outer surface 2, and a co-operating cap portion including a cylindrical body 4 with a frustoconical recess 5 in one end thereof. The threaded body 1 is provided with a plurality of axial bores 9 with which pins 8 in the cap co-operate. The body 1 may have an inwardly tapered projection 3 and the cap may have a conventional hexagonal nut-head 6 above a chamfered step 7. The pins 8 may be soldered, welded or held by adhesive in the cap which may together with the threaded body be metal plated, e.g. with chromium. By varying the position of the pins a " key " effect may be produced in different fasteners. In use, the pins on the cap are inserted in the corresponding bores in the nut or bolt head and the whole is tightened using a spanner on the hexagonal head of the cap, after tightening the cap is removed.
