A spanner comprises a head 1 formed with a hexagonal, a double hexagonal, or a surface including grooves 5, for engaging a nut, a pivoted link 6 for preventing springing of the jaws during tightening, and a handle 2 of non-circular cross-section, which is engaged in a bore of similar cross-section, in a lug 4 of the head.
