Abstract
1,250,027. Sanitary towels. MOLNLYCKE A.B. 24 Dec., 1968 [29 Dec., 1967], No. 61381/ 68. Heading A5R. Sanitary towels include a member extending in the longitudinal direction thereof which is elastically deformable in the transverse direction, which, in use is deformed to bias the edges of the towel into sealing engagement with the wearer's legs 4, 5, Fig. 3, the towel being held in a prestressed condition by a liquid soluble retaining member 10, Fig. 6. The elastically deformable member may consist of a slab 7, Fig. 6, of foamed plastic, foam rubber, acrylic fibre or similar resilient material on which is placed an absorption body 1 consisting of a liquid de-fibered cellulose encased in a gauze, non-woven or similar, material, and the two may be glued, 9, or heatsealed together. The under surface of the absorption body may be covered with an outer layer of plastic and completely or partially enclosed by an outer layer of material rayon fibre, synthetic fibre or non-woven material. The elastic member may consist of a laddershaped member, Fig. 2 (not shown), made of a resilient plastics material, inserted in the absorption body 1, Fig. 3. The towel is held in a prestressed position, Fig. 6, by a strip of liquid soluble material 10 secured to the. upwardly curved side edges of the towel by adhesive or heat sealing. When the towel is placed in position the strip 10 is ruptured by the liquid emanating from the wearer, (Fig. 7, not shown). The side edges of the towel then abut sealingly with the legs.
