Abstract

1,249,066. Making pressure vessels. FEUERLOSCHGERATEWERK APOLDA VEB. 5 March, 1969, No. 11707/69. Heading B3A. A method of making thin-walled steel cylinders for fluids under pressure is performed in three stages. In the first, a seamless steel tube is prepared, the bottom of the cylinder is formed by forging or pressing, and the partly formed cylinder is cold extruded. The second stage comprises forging, pressing or rolling a rounded neck and this is followed by a third stage wherein the cylinder is heat treated in a protective gas atmosphere. Heat treatment comprises normalizing and then heating to hardening temperature followed by either austempering or hardening in oil with subsequent tempering. The cylinder is used for storing high-pressure liquefied and/or compressed gases and/or gases dissolved under pressure.
