Abstract
1333116 Continuously annealing steel strip NIPPON KOKAN K K 15 Dec 1970 59580/70 Headings C7A and C7N Apparatus for continuously annealing steel strip includes in sequence a heating zone A, a first soaking zone B at 22, a first sealing chamber 7, a rapid cooling zone 1 or 5, a further sealing chamber 7, second soaking zone C or 18 and final cooling zone 21, there being provided means, shown in the particular embodiment as rollers 6, for substantially preventing gas flow into the sealing chambers from the rapid cooling and soaking zones. In the rapid cooling zone the strip is sprayed with oil, methanol, ethanol or propanol, ammonia, freon or liquid nitrogen, which are recycled through blower 13, head exchanger 14 and storage tank 15. Gases entering the sealing chambers are extracted by blower 16, coolant being liquified and returned to the coolant cycle while the remaining gas is returned to the soaking zones. The sheet is initially soaked at 710‹ - 800‹C, cooled at not less than 50‹C/sec. and soaked at 300‹-500‹C for more than 10 secs.
