Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the reducing atmospheres in adjacent furnace from being affected by the oxidative atmosphere in a gas-water cooling furnace by keeping the internal pressure of the gas-water cooling furnace lower than the internal pressures of the adjacent furnaces in a continuous annealing furnace consisting of a heating furnace, a soaking furnace, the gas-water cooling furnace and an overaging furnace. CONSTITUTION:In a continuous annealing furnace provided continuously with a heating furnace 11, a soaking furnace 12, a gas-water cooling furnace 13 and an overaging furnace 14, an operator 20 which is inputted with cooling rates, line speeds, the temps., thicknesses and widths of the steel strips to be annealed, and outputs to gaseous atmosphere supply systems 15, 16 and a gaseous atmosphere discharge system 17 is provided. In operation of the annealing furnace, the gaseous atmosphere supply systems 15-1, 15-2 and the in-furnace gas discharge system 17-1 of the furnace 13 are automatically controlled in such a way that the internal pressure of the oxidative atmosphere in the furnace 13 is kept lower than the internal pressures of the furnace 12 and the furnace 14 before and behind the same. The intrusion of the oxidative gas of the atmosphere of the gas-water cooling furnace into the reducing atmospheres of the furnace 12 and the furnace 14 and the giving of adverse influence upon these are obviated.
