Abstract

1,248,518. Electrostatic filters. KNAPSACK A.G. 2 Oct., 1969 [4 Oct., 1968], No. 48545/ 69. Heading B2J. [Also in Division H2] Conductor 1 supplying and supporting the electrodes 4 of an electrostatic filter is led through the filter casing by means of a duct 5 passing through the filter cover 2, the conductor being insulated from the filter casing by a cylindrical insulator 6 or a disc shaped insulator (26) (Fig. 4 - not shown), located higher than the cover, and the combination of insulating bushing 7 and disc 8 providing a chamber 10 wherein gas at a higher pressure than that prevailing in the filter prevents possible contaminants from reaching the insulator. As shown the gas fed through pipe 9 leaves chamber 10 through an annular slot between disc 8 and bushing 7. The lead-in device may also comprise as shown an excess pressure safety means comprising a dashpot 12 containing water and an inverted bell dipping into the water, the water surface within the bell having a covering of oil to minimise evaporation. The gas may be warmed to 60‹C to prevent water vapour depositing on the insulating parts. Instead of the dash-pot associated with the lead-in device, a tube may lead through the cover into a water filled vessel (Fig. 2 - not shown) or the cover may include a rupturable disc. Bellows 24 secured to conductor 1 and insulator 6 allow axial movement of the conductor.
