Abstract

The hv circuit breaker is contained in an enclosure. The enclosure is grounded and filled with a higher dielectric strength gas, such as SF6 the design lending itself to simple assembly whilst maintaining its centre of gravity close to its geometric centre. The circuit breaker proper and integral spark suppressor is housed within a cylinder which has an annular shoulder extending from its insulated section. This bears onto an asymmetrical annular ring extending inwards from an outer metal enclosure dividing it into two separate compartments. An earthing ring on the inner surface of the inner cylinder provides protection against breakdown effects of the insulated section.
