Abstract

952,521. Electrically heated mantles. H. H. GOLDSTAUB. Sept. 19, 1962 [Oct. 24, 1961], No. 38115/61. Drawings to Specification. Heading H5H. A heating mantle has an annular, flexible member around the mouth of a pocket for receiving a flask, such that the member contacts the flask and, if the latter has a smooth surface, prevents the entry of liquids or solids into the gap between the flask and the pocket, or the escape of an inert gas therefrom. The member may be an inflatable rubber or neoprene tube filled with gas or liquid, or a sheet of heat resistant rubber having a central aperture. The heating element is located close to the pocket surface, which is formed of knitted glass yarn, and inert gas may be introduced into the glass wool insulant separating the pocket from a rigid outer casing, a controlled leak acting to switch off the element if the gas pressure falls below a certain value.
